“Giant Purple Heart” A very broad leaved form of the traditional standby, considered somewhat hardy in the South. This new fabulous form is a great dramatic basket plant as well as a showy summertime bedding plant.

Rooted plant.

Very broad-leaved version of the popular Purple Heart plant, featuring 3-4” wide, rich burgundy succulent leaves and equally stems, this semi-deciduous ground cover (8-12”) can spread quickly from 2-4’. In late Spring, lavender spiderwort flowers (1/2”) appear at branch intersections. A native of Mexico, it is equally happy in mostly sun or part shade. Great for adding rich tones to a bed & drought tolerant once established. Situate in well-drained soil & for best results cut back in early Winter.

Purple heart ‘Biltmore Bimbo’ can be used as a ground cover, cascading in baskets, as a trailer in mixed containers or as a houseplant. They are best used in masses for in-ground plantings and will spread relatively quickly. The purple leaves are a nice contrast to gold, chartreuse, or variegated foliage, and a great complement to pink, light purple, or burgundy blossoms on other plants. Pair it with complementary colors for bold combinations ‚Äì chartreuse coleus, orange marigolds or red begonias.
